Iran is the second largest producer of refractory composites for the foundry industry in the world.

The deputy director of design and control of a knowledge-based company said: “One of our products is phenolic powder resin, which is used to make refractory composites such as refractory bricks that must withstand high temperatures and are used in the smelting industry, waste incinerators, and thermal chimneys of power plants. Until now, this type of resin was imported from abroad, and we succeeded in producing this product.”

Referring to the competitive advantage of this type of resin over its foreign counterpart, he stated: “This product is used as a binder in the production of heat-resistant materials, especially in refractory products. Phenolic resins are suitable for various industries where heat resistance is important due to their high heat resistance. The price of the foreign counterpart was $1.8, but we sell this product for $1.5.”

The deputy director of design and control of this knowledge-based company noted: This product is a modified novalac resin that is used to produce molten transfer pipes for casting (iron smelting). Considering that currently all novalac resins used in the refractory industry are of the general type, this product is the first fast cure novalac resin suitable for the refractory industry, which, in addition to lower Btime, has been modified to have higher thermal resistance in a way that is compatible with the target industry materials to have better chemical reactivity.

Referring to another product of this knowledge-based company, which is Bakelite, he stated: Bakelite was mainly imported into the country from European companies, Italy and Belgium. Injection and press molding are used to produce parts that are subject to constant wear and require high electrical conductivity to prevent sparks and fires, such as gas meter parts or technical parts.

He continued: Bakelite, or phenolic molding powder, is a composite consisting of several types of powdered materials, including organic and inorganic fillers, organic additives, pigments, graphite, and phenolic resin, and has the ability to be molded and shaped to make various parts under pressure and heat.
