The gas supply has become the main concern for producers in the winter season. In a meeting attended by members of the Mines, Metals, and Industries Commissions of the Chamber of Commerce, this issue was raised as one of the major challenges of the cold season.
Younes Akbarpour Paydar, head of the Chamber of Commerce’s Commission for Industries, Energy, and Construction, pointed to the gas supply limitations starting from October and announced that the gas shortage will severely affect steel and foundry units in particular.
He also highlighted the problem of providing alternative fuels such as diesel and added, “In the absence of gas, we will be forced to use fuels like fuel oil, which not only causes significant pollution but may also lead to environmental authorities taking action against production units.”
Omid Esmaeel Zafar, head of the Chamber of Commerce’s Mines and Metals Commission, also referred to the electricity outages in recent years and said, “Gas cuts this winter could lead to the shutdown of production units, especially in the steel sector, just like the power outages.”
In this meeting, Khosrow Aryanpour, operations manager of the gas company, stated that the country’s gas consumption exceeds its production and emphasized that industries should consider securing alternative fuels to avoid production disruptions.
The commission members stressed the need to manage energy consumption and focus on using energy-efficient equipment, proposing solutions such as promoting the use of low-consumption heaters and optimizing boiler rooms as potential measures.
